Blood Borne Pathogens
This training program will discuss safeguards
to protect workers against the health hazards from
exposure to blood and certain body fluids containing
blood borne pathogens, and to reduce their risk to this
exposure in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1030.
- Definitions & Regulatory Overview including the Needle Stick Amendment
- Symptoms of blood borne diseases
- Modes of transmission of blood borne pathogens
- Employer's exposure control plan.
- Recognizing tasks and other activities that may involve exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials
- Methods that will prevent or reduce exposure including appropriate engineering controls, work practices, and personal protective equipment
- Types, proper use, removal, handling, decontamination and disposal of personal protective equipment (Demonstration)
- Hepatitis B vaccine, method of administration, the benefits of being vaccinated, and that the vaccine and vaccination will be offered free of charge
- Appropriate actions to take in an emergency involving blood or other potentially infectious materials
- Post-exposure evaluation and follow-up that the employer is required to provide for the employee following an exposure incident
- Signs and labels and/or color-coding required.
- Written comprehension test
